Sneak Peek: Confessions of a Corporate Slut

I reinvented my husband and managed his life, our lives, and his company while remaining resolutely behind him. At the height of my career, my initiatives were so cleverly couched that my husband supposed he birthed all the ideas alone. Though I had years of experience as a business owner, an entrepreneur, a top salesperson, and a corporate manager, when I sold my company and married John Wendall I became one thing only: a corporate slut.

My self-appointed title always got a laugh. It connoted a spoiled, kept woman, languishing in luxury. On the contrary, a corporate slut is a working woman, albeit an unpaid one. For sixteen years, I poured the best of myself, my talents, my ability, my brainpower, even my body—into creating and sustaining a successful man, a successful business, and a successful marriage.

It worked for a while, but in the end, I was rewarded by being surreptitiously terminated with no notice.

There was no remuneration for my services. About the Author: I was born, raised and educated throughout the Midwest and began writing as soon as I could hold a pen. It seemed easier than talking. I regularly wrote stories to my mom and dad and though encouraged to pursue writing, I found myself at the University of Cincinnati, College of Business.

My career was spent in a male dominated industry heavy duty restaurant equipment where I managed to successfully navigate a sea of testosterone. But though steeped in angst, writing feeds my soul.

I used to arrange flowers but now I derive great joy in arranging words. The idea is that people might cry or laugh as they connect to them. My first novel, Confessions of a Corporate Slut was published in January The title is metaphorical…tongue in cheek for smart women who give away their intellectual property for free…to benefit a spouse. Its publication preceded the very public stories of Silva Spitzer, Elizabeth Edwards, et. And a story that is all too often being played out in today's corporate culture.

When Roberta finds love, she is oblivious to the astronomical losses she will sustain-including pride, self-esteem and money-the tradeoff she makes to help her CEO husband push his manufacturing company to the pinnacle of its industry. Product Details. Average Review. Write a Review. Confessions Of A Corporate Slut 4. Sonia-Ahmed More than 1 year ago The title, confessions of a corporate slut, is very attractive. Far from it, I was pleasantly surprised as the narrator introduced us with the corporate slut and the poop she had to scoop daily.

Contrary to the expectations, the story is nothing what the title suggests, yet everything that justifies the title. At the age of fifty, newly divorced Roberta looks back at her life and narrates how she reached there.

  5. Her life events from early years to the present are well written and blend smoothly. We get to know the events and circumstances that groom Roberta into the woman that she was. I would like to divide the novel into three parts, where the middle part was the one that was very tedious to read. Although the aim was to show how demanding that particular position was, and how her wife part and the corporate slut competed for existence, the narration became kind of repetitive and sometimes very bland. At one point in the novel, I did not even want to read further, but the curiosity to know at what point the balance would shift towards divorce and who would be the one to rock the boat made me read on.

After that part, the novel picked pace again and it remained very interesting and engaging till the very end. When Roberta tested her negotiating skills on John during divorce, I felt like patting her back.

    See a Problem?

That was very clever given her mental situation. I almost wished to know what she did next and put that negotiating ability to win her a position she deserved. One can relate to her at many levels. A child with family problems, a woman working in the field of men especially in the times when it was rare and then going on to marry a wrong person, giving her life and career up for her marriage.

    Print Edition

She is considered a lady of leisure but is working her backside off without any monetary benefit or otherwise, praise or gratitude. A woman who is fearless for the world yet is in an abused relation. To sum it up all, this novel touched my heart often. PureJonel More than 1 year ago This was an interesting story.

It was also very informative and enlightening. I appreciated the easy flow to the storyline and the fact that it was quite well written. Each section seemed to flow naturally into the next without pause.

Unfortunately I found the story a little tedious a couple of times. It began to feel like the main character found herself in the same situations time and again. Although that does happen in reality, within the parameters of a novel it begins to seem repetitive.

The main character was phenomenally well developed, as one would expect with a story that follows her from childhood to late mid-life. That said, they did correlate perfectly with the personalities and actions of those around her at the time. You also get to know those close to her fairly well. I would have appreciated a bit more development to some of the supporting characters.

    Confessions of a Corporate Slut

I felt that there were some who were simply names on a page. As a whole, this was a very heartfelt story. I appreciated the perspectives that became very apparent throughout. It was definitely a novel that made you stop and think. It also makes you feel grateful for life as a whole. Please note that I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
